NC/SC CIVIL-HUMAN RIGHTS
COUNCIL
MEETING

The NC/SC Council met once again on 19 July 2008,
this time at UAW Local 2404 in
Charlotte
NC. The Council meets quarterly at different Locals, with guess
speakers on Civil Rights issues and Education. The Council also
sponsors a Best Meal Contest; which Local 2404 took the title
from Local 5287.
This Council meeting was special; being that President
Ricky McDowell was fresh from the NAACP Conference in Cincinnati
Ohio. Ricky supplied the council with bit and pieces of the conference,
but the most important thing; was the speech on DVD, on Presidential
hopeful Barack Obama. After a meet a greet, the council sat down
and watched the DVD and gave their input on the upcoming Presidential
Elections. The majority of the council wants a President that
is for the Working Man.
Billy Sanders of the EEOC was guess speaker. Billy
notified the Council of hot issues
going
on with the EEOC and local companies. He also talked about the
new call center for the South. The call center is based in Charlotte
NC and is manned to take calls and supply information on Discrimination.
Billy also explain about new programs that the EEOC offers via
their website www.eeoc.gov
, he also explained that all information on the website is free
for the coping.
Ricky announced several conferences that the Council
will be participating in, such as the Region 8 Conference in Jackson
Mississippi, the International Conference in Black Lake and announced
that the next Council meeting will be held at Local 3520 on Oct
18th 2008.
